Nighttime in Bisti Badlands - Backpacking Tour

This is an opportunity of a lifetime, nighttime (and daytime) photography in the amazing Bisti. Learn from master night photographer, Jeff Jessing, how to expand your creativity and options for night photography in one of the best locations on our planet. Of course, you will be in the Bisti for amazing sunrise and sunset light as well. For this tour we will meet in Farmington, NM (not far from Durango, CO) to begin our back-country adventure in one of the most unique natural areas in North America, Bisti Wilderness. From Farmington will make the short drive to Bisti where we will embark on a expert-guided back country photo tour lead by Jeff.
The timing of this tour corresponds with the intense darkness of a new moon. Assuming the weather permits, you can expect to photograph some the darkest star-filled skies in North America. Since this is the high desert, it is likely there will be clear skies! You will learn Jeff's techniques for painting with light, star-trails, and star-fields.
Jeff will provide you with the recommended equipment list and aid you in renting any backpacking gear that you may not currently have. Due to the unique nature of the backpacking tour, please contact Jeff for more information.
Itinerary
- Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22: Meet at the Bisti Wilderness parking area in the afternoon on Friday and hike into the wilderness. Over the next three days we will backpack into the wilderness with the sole purpose to make stunning photos. We will return to our cars on Sunday morning.
