The Wall of Ice

The Wall of Ice

Chaco Timber
Chaco Canyon, in a remote region of Northwest New Mexico, is rich in history and photographic subjects. This is a shot taken of an ancient wall of the Hungo Pavi ruins.

Bridging the Darkness
The modern Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge provides a striking contrast with the old world charm of Charleston.

Bridging the Darkness

Patiently at Risk
I was fortunate to have this fisherman waiting so patiently (and motionless) during this long exposure. As you may imagine, the man was in a precarious location considering the large size of the surf on this morning.

Patiently at Risk

Sheltered
This was taken from within an old barn as an afternoon storm was brewing overhead. The high contrast in this scene provides a challenge to any photographer.

Floating
The calm harbor waters allowed me to craft this image such that the floating pier does indeed appear to be floating in a sea of blue.

Yaquina Bay's Gateway
This photograph was made just prior to the typical early morning burn-off of the fog. Patiently waiting for a fishing boat to pass underneath added the necessary detail to this beautiful scene. Unfortunately, Newport city officials had most the trees cleared from this area so future photographers will not have the wonderful natural framing that the trees provided.

Aquaduct
Precarious placement of my camera in near dark conditions allowed me to capture the channeled runoff water from a small hydroelectric generator that powers the small community of Jawbone Flats.

The Ancient Ones
This photograph of the awe-inspiring Cliff Palace was crafted during a beautiful evening. Cliff Palace is the largest of the cliff dwellings found in Mesa Verde.

Teton Barn
This is one of a few standing weathered barns on “Mormon Row” with the Teton Range in the background.

Cape Arago Lighthouse
This is one of several lighthouses that dot the stunning Oregon coastline.

The Shed
There are many lifetimes worth of photography opportunities in the amazing farm-country of the Palouse.

Two Medicine Canoe
This was a peaceful morning at this beautiful lake with Mount Sinopah looming overhead.

Last Leg
A photographic treasure, the Palouse is dotted with countless barns and old farmsteads. This particular barn has seen better days and certainly appears to be on its last leg of live.

Anchor Chain
One of my favorite harbors on the coast, Newport provides endless photographic subjects along with a rich history of the men and women that have fished from there.

Along the River
This photograph of the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge train was made along a remote stretch of the Animas River. Backpackers can use the train to deliver themselves to the Needle Creek trailhead that leads to the stunningly beautiful region known as Chicago Basin.

Ancient Portal
Chaco Canyon was once the hub of ceremony and trade for the prehistoric Four Corners area. The large buildings that the Chacoan people constructed were nothing short of amazing. This photograph was made at the Hungo Pavi ruin.

The Window to the Past
This is a photograph of a "window" in one of the walls of the largest ruin, called Pueblo Bonito. The scale of this prehistoric structure is impressive in even today's standard.
