The Human Factor by Jeff Jessing

Hand of Man, Structures, Man-made Objects and People

Bridging the Darkness
The modern Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge provides a striking contrast with the old world charm of Charleston.

Patiently at Risk
I was fortunate to have this fisherman waiting so patiently (and motionless) during this long exposure. As you may imagine, the man was in a precarious location considering the large size of the surf on this morning.

Calhoun Mansion
The beautifully crafted Calhoun Mansion looks a bit ominous in this photograph with the full-moon shining overhead.

Floating
The calm harbor waters allowed me to craft this image such that the floating pier does indeed appear to be floating in a sea of blue.

Yaquina Bay Bridge
This photograph was made on a foggy morning at the Newport Harbor. The rapidly clearing fog that started from the pinnacle of the bridge captivated me.

Hero
One of my favorite harbors on the coast, Newport provides endless photographic subjects along with a rich history of the men and women that have fished from there.

The Arthur Ravenel
This shot was made many miles away from this photogenic modern bridge located in historic Charleston.

Taos Timbers
The Native American Pueblos are both historically and photographically rich. I like the striking contrast of the wood with their dark shadows cast upon the adobe.

Taos Timbers

San Geronimo Chapel
This is the gateway to Taos’ Pueblo church that was built in 1850 to replace the original chapel (constructed in 1619) that was destroyed in the War with Mexico.

Sheltered
This was taken from within an old barn as an afternoon storm was brewing overhead. The high contrast in this scene provides a challenge to any photographer.

Sheltered

The Shed
There are many lifetimes worth of photography opportunities in the amazing farm-country of the Palouse.

Last Leg
A photographic treasure, the Palouse is dotted with countless barns and old farmsteads. This particular barn has seen better days and certainly appears to be on its last leg of live.

Two Medicine Canoe
This was a peaceful morning at this beautiful lake with Mount Sinopah looming overhead.

Echoes from the Past
One of many petroglyths found within Arches and the surrounding area.

The Boiler in the Bay
In 1910, an explosion sank the ship, J. Marhoffer. With a bit of hiking at low tide, I made this image of the ill-fated ship’s boiler (the namesake of the location, Boiler Bay).

Alien Landscape
This image was crafted while leading a photography workshop in Arches National Park. The laser painting is one of several creative techniques that Jeff shares with his students.

Multnomah Falls
This single exposure was a challenge to get in terms of depth of field. At the focal length used, the near and far subjects pushed the limits of the available DOF.
