Wildlife, Birds and Zoological

Chicago Basin, located roughly 30 miles NE of Durango, in the Weminuche Wilderness is a place rich in scenery and wildlife, such as these mountain goats.

The Goats of Chicago Basin

The strong bond between mother and child is ever present in nature. These harbor seals were photographed on the Oregon coast while Jeff was leading a photo tour.

Unconditional Love

An unchallenging day at the zoo for a Malayan Sun Bear (Helarctos malayanus). This photograph is a winner in the 2009 North American Nature Photographers Association annual contest.

Unchallenged

The texture and color of this bed of sea urchins makes a perfect photographic subject. This photograph was made on one of Jeff's many photo tours led on the Oregon coast.

Clinging tenaciously to a rock, this is one of the countless starfish that can be found along the Oregon coastline.

As One

Glacier National Park provides the nature lover with bountiful opportunities to see (and photograph) many of North America’s large mammals, including the mighty moose seen here. This photograph was made while leading one of my Glacier tours.

A rare treat in the wild is to photograph a bobcat (Lynx rufus), so I was pleased to make acquaintances with this beautiful cat. This bobcat was watching my every move while resting in a small pocket of illumination.

A bison and fall colors of the changing grasses are captured in this photograph.

A long exposure and a quick panning of the camera helped craft this image of a beautiful bobcat.

This is one of hundreds of waterfalls in Glacier. This particular falls has two out-flows, one higher and one lower, which makes it one of the most unusual in the area. Historically it was also known as Trick Falls.

This bio-mass of Brown Pelicans found near my home is one of many examples of why the Oregon coast is a treasure to humanity.

At certain times of the year, the number of pelicans that can be found roosting along the coastline of the Northwest can be impressive. Here you can see thousands of pelicans on the dramatic offshore rock called Gull Rock.

Thouands of Birds

Aquarium photography is one of the most challenging environments to make good images, specifically, the photographer has to deal with dark conditions, rapidly moving subjects, and distracting parasitic reflections.

My vision was realized when I slowly moved into the right position for this shot. I love the concerned eyes of this harbor seal looking at me from behind the rock.

On a foggy afternoon when the landscape views are obscured, I will often point my camera at wildlife such as this marmot.

I can never tire of photographing mountain goat! This shot was taken on one of my Glacier tours from the crest of the Hidden Lake trail.
